Fire Extinguishers

The regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that for fire-fighting and fire detection where necessary (whether due to the features of the premises, the activity carried on there, any hazard present or any other relevant circumstances) in order to safeguard the safety of relevant persons, the responsible person must ensure that:

• The premises are, to the extent that it is appropriate, equipped with appropriate fire-fighting equipment and with fire detectors and alarms and
• any non-automatic fire-fighting equipment so provided is easily accessible, simple to use and indicated by signs.

BS 5306-3:2017 states that thorough maintenance should occur at least once a year by a competent person to ensure the extinguishers are functioning correctly or if they need to be replaced or recharged.

A fire extinguisher that is regularly maintained is essential for it to be fully functioning, our engineers at Alliance Fire Safety Ltd on every visit will ensure that they are relevant and located in the correct places with the correct signage. We will also whilst on site suggest any changes that could be made to signage on escape routes or to exits.

Some extinguishers are designed to tackle specific fire classes, and it may also be your legal responsibility to ensure the correct extinguishers are in places.
